I had, in an earlier post talked about the beauty of Movie Poster Lightboxes, you know, the ones you see in your favorite cinema theater. They are quite eye-catching, aren't they? Well, thats their purpose, capturing eyeballs.

While these lightboxes are not for the same purposes in your Home Theater, one cannot deny the impact they have, wherever they are. They grab your attention, like moths to a flame. Lightboxes add a touch of authenticity to your Home Theater and really complete the experience, sans the teeming masses. Movie poster lightboxes make a great accessory for a home theater. You can buy one for about $400 or more, or for less than half of that, you can build a top quality Movie Poster Backlit Lightbox yourself.

You don't need to build one, You can buy a ready-made Lightbox.
I am not here to sugarcoat things for you. Building your own Movie Poster Lightbox from scratch is hard work, no, really hard. And you will strain yourself and bang your head more than a couple of times before you finally complete your little project. And also yes, you can buy one and save yourself all that sweat and trouble. So why should you be the idiot who leaves the ready made Lightboxes already on offer and build one of your own, with your own hands?

Well, unless you prefer spending over $400 and above for the tackiest, cheapest Lightboxes, you would definitely find the prospect of building your Lightbox more appealing. You can build your lightbox for half of the cost of a ready made one.

If you want another reason, do go online and check the ones on offer yourself. Most Lightboxes are only functional - they do not have any aesthetic appeal, and certainly lack any level of form or beauty. They have the dull, characterless, featureless look of mass produced machined aluminium or flat black-strip framing. You wouldn't want something like that messing up your beautiful Home Theater, do you?

I didn't, and so I got down to building my own poster lightbox. After a lot of Planning, research, material acquisition, headaches, building, grumbling, mistakes, even more headaches, re-engineering, and even more grumbling, I finally built myself a beautiful Movie Poster Lightbox that I am proud to display in my Home Theater.

Well, I probably should have put down my process of building my poster lightbox - step by step, with all photos and detailed explanations. But hey when there is a better guide for building your own poster lightbox, I figured I should probably let you know about it.

The brilliant Ed Weiland has put together, in my experience, the best illustrated guide to building your own Poster Lightbox. In fact, I built my Lightbox only after coming across his guide. It is actually more of a complete workshop than a guide. With so much detail - Photos, Step by Step reference Diagrams complete with actual measurements, Material List with actual prices, framing and glass work guides, even wiring diagrams and details - this is probably all you need.

Note: The photo of the man next to the lightbox is Ed Weiland.

Get down to it, and be one of the few people in the world to display a self built Movie Poster Lightbox in your Home Theater.

If you didn't get it, here is the link to Weiland's DIY Poster Lightbox building guide.
